While the three-day wedding is making headlines for its fashion, luxury, and guest list, it’s also becoming a case study in the environmental cost of celebrity extravagance. From dozens of private jets landing in Venice to a 500-million-dollar yacht dominating the city’s skyline, critics are questioning what kind of message the world’s third-richest man is sending.

To protect guests and ensure privacy, Venice officials closed off entire canal routes, ramped up police presence, and banned drones. This redirected public boat traffic, increased fuel consumption from security convoys, and disrupted local water flow systems.
Local residents have already raised concerns about erosion, fragile lagoon stability, and the effects of constant motorboat activity on historic foundations.
Local Protests: "No Space for Bezos"
Protests erupted in St. Mark’s Square and across the Venetian islands under slogans like "No Space for Bezos" and "Venice is not your playground." Environmental groups like Greenpeace and local preservation societies accuse Bezos of hypocrisy.
Despite donating 3 million euros to local causes, critics say it’s a drop in the bucket compared to the damage caused by the event’s scale and carbon output.
